Edmund Cheatham was cold coming off the bench, but Cheatham warmed up quickly as Cheatham stroked a key pinch-hit double in the two to lead the Trinidad Triggers (3-0) to a 5-3 win over the Garden City Wind (0-3) on Thursday at Clint Lightner.
With the game scoreless in the second inning Cheatham came to the plate and doubled, bringing home Bryan Frazier.
Caleb Bryson was hot from the plate for the Trinidad Triggers. Bryson went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the eighth inning.
Jake Swartout pitched lights out for the Trinidad Triggers. The Garden City Wind managed just one hit off of Swartout, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his three innings of work.
The Garden City Wind were led by Jacob Gonzalezs hitting. Gonzalez went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fifth inning.
Richie Anderson improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Trinidad Triggers. He allowed three runs over five innings. Anderson struck out four, walked one and gave up five hits.
Zack Russell-Myers ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
